Voyage Community Council

The Voyage Community Council is open to adults of all ages from the neighborhoods within the Youth Enrichment Zone. These participants are interested in improving their community by identifying needs in the area and working to find solutions. The council is centered around health and well-being, academic success, public safety, and community development, all of which contribute to the success, self-sufficiency, and overall systematic transformation that Voyage wishes to bring about within the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in Wilmington.
The Council meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6 pm to 7 pm at the BRC and every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at Maides Park Community Center. The Council is currently focused on fellowship and bringing residents out for positive community engagement through organizing at least one event per month. Some of the events hosted by the Council include the August Back To School Drive, Fall Community Cookout, Thanksgiving Dinner and Basket Drive, and the Holiday Talent Show. The Community Council also works in conjunction with the Health and Wellbeing Committee to bring enrichments to the community that foster increased health.
VOYAGE Youth Leadership Council
Launched in 2016, The Youth Leadership Council is made up of 10th-12th-grade students from the Youth Enrichment Zone. These students work with the Voyage Community Outreach Coordinator, Brenda Galloway, to develop their leadership and public speaking skills.
The goal is to help the students develop a voice that represents the youth from their community and to encourage them to become advocates for alternatives to engaging in at-risk behaviors.
The Youth Advisory Council participates in presentations that help educate Voyage Board Members, Stakeholders, Community Partners and potential funders about the effects of violence and other issues within the Youth Enrichment Zone. They offer solutions for sustainable changes within their own community.
Service Learning is also a significant part of the Youth Advisory Council. They identify, plan and engage in service projects that directly support & improve the Youth Enrichment Zone community.
